The knowledge platform on upper eyelids

An honest answer about your upper eyelids

Heavy or drooping upper eyelids can make you look tired and can even limit your field of vision. But not everyone benefits from eyelid surgery. At Ooglidcheck you receive an honest, professional answer from a BIG-registered eyelid specialist. Including when that answer is: this would not help you.

Ooglidcheck is an initiative of Looks Clinics, a clinic specialising in upper eyelid surgery (Zwolle and Amsterdam, the Netherlands).

Sometimes the answer is: don't do it

Eyelid surgery is a medical procedure with a recovery period of roughly two weeks, during which swelling and bruising are normal. Not every complaint improves with surgery. Expect a professional opinion from us, not encouragement. A share of the people we assess are advised against surgery, or referred to their GP or ophthalmologist first.

No algorithm

Assessed by a specialist, not by an algorithm

Every photo assessment and every video consultation is carried out by a BIG-registered eyelid specialist of Looks Clinics, a clinic fully dedicated to upper eyelid surgery that performs hundreds of procedures each year. Your situation is judged the way it would be in the consulting room: on medical grounds, without a sales pitch. We use technology only to check whether your photos are sharp enough, never for the medical opinion itself.

Knowledge base

Knowledge base: understand first, decide later

Whichever step you choose, the better you understand the subject, the better your decision. In the knowledge base we explain what causes droopy eyelids, what surgery costs in the Netherlands, what recovery honestly looks like and when you should not have surgery at all.

Frequently asked questions

Is Ooglidcheck independent?

No, and we would rather say so plainly than hide it in the small print. Ooglidcheck is an initiative of Looks Clinics. The opinion you receive, however, is an honest medical one: if you are not a good candidate, or if your complaints appear to have a different cause, you will simply be told so.

What happens to my photos?

Photos you send in for the photo assessment are used solely for that assessment and are recorded under the rules that apply to medical records in the Netherlands. The self-test itself sends no images anywhere; you only choose between example illustrations. You can read more in our privacy statement.

What if I am not a good candidate?

Then that is what you will hear. We explain why, and if your complaints appear to have a different cause we advise you to discuss them with your GP or ophthalmologist. In that case you will not receive a treatment offer.

Is the photo assessment done by a real person?

Yes. Every photo assessment is personally reviewed by a BIG-registered eyelid specialist. Technology at most checks whether your photos are usable.

Why is all of this free?

The self-test and the photo assessment are free because we believe an honest first opinion should not have a price barrier. Only the video consultation costs € 50, which is fully deducted if you proceed with treatment.
