How an assessment works: from photo to opinion
Sending photos to a clinic feels like a big step for many people. This article shows exactly what happens next, so you know where you stand.

Step 1: you send three photos
Straight from the front, from the left and from the right, in daylight and with a relaxed face. The full instructions are on the photo assessment page. Good photos matter more than beautiful photos: the specialist needs to see the eyelid margin, the skin fold and the brow position.
Step 2: usability check
First we check whether the photos are sharp and usable. If not, you receive a short email explaining what to change. That is technique and logistics, not a medical judgement.
Step 3: the specialist assesses
A BIG-registered eyelid specialist personally reviews your photos and assesses: is there excess skin, does the eyelid margin sit at the right height, how do the brows sit, and are there signals that call for further examination. Because this is a remote medical assessment, the opinion is recorded in a secure patient record, as Dutch law requires.
Step 4: you receive the opinion
Within 24 to 48 hours you receive a written opinion by email, with an explanation. Three outcomes are possible: your situation fits upper eyelid surgery, it does not, or further examination or a consultation is needed first. Each outcome comes with honest advice on the next step. Not suitable means: no treatment offer.
What the opinion is not
A photo assessment is an expert first opinion, not a definitive diagnosis. In case of doubt, the physician will suggest an in-person consultation at the clinic; on the day of treatment itself, the physician naturally always assesses you in person. And the opinion does not oblige you to anything: what you do with the advice is up to you.
FAQ
Why is the photo assessment free?
